We are based in the East Wing (Richard Roberts Building) of the Department of Chemistry, which was entirely re-constructed internally and opened in 2003. Within this wing there are laboratories, instrument rooms, separate write-up areas, offices, a lecture theatre and seminar rooms. This has been done to the highest specifications and provides an excellent working environment. Our research group is based in one of these labs containing 10 fumehoods, each 1.7 metre wide. There is a separate write-up room across the corridor. Both the lab and the write-up room have natural light.

The laboratory is very well equipped, with glassware, rotary evaporators, high vacuum pumps, oven, fridge-freezer, kugelrohr, inert gases, and other equipment. We also have our own HPLC machine with chiral columns in an adjacent instrument room. The write-up room contains desk space, drawers, computers, a sink, etc.
The Department has its own analytical suite. There are 5 high field NMR spectrometers (including a 250 MHz, a 500 MHz and several 400 MHz machines), IR machines, mass spectrometers (including GC-MS), elemental analysis, X-ray crystallography, polarimetry, HPLC and gas chromatography.
We have access to electronic databases (for example SciFinder and Web of Knowledge) and to many electronic journals.
